RE:Fashion Awards 2008
Looking great while saving the planet.
Is it really possible?
The RE:Fashion group certainly thinks so, and they’re not alone. Various other retailers, workers and young designers believe that ethical fashion is a perfect way to have “Style Without Compromise.”
So to prove this fact, and encourage more ethical design, RE:Fashion has started the first awards ceremony dedicated to ethical fashion. Their eleven awards celebrate social and environmental improvements in retail, manufacture, and consumer engagement.
Applications to put yourself in running for the awards began on June 26th, but if you’re a designer, manufacturer, retailer, or even a student interested in applying, you still have until August 20th.
Award categories are:
RE:Designer of the Year
New RE:Designer of the Year (for students/graduates)
Making a Difference (achieving positive change in the fashion sector)
Innovation (includes several other categories such as Business and People)
Esthetica Prize, awarded to a small selection of shortlisted designers, allowing them to exhibit their collections during London Fashion Week for two seasons.
Judges are looking for innovation creativity and flair in fashion design, product quality, and in terms of sustainability. The fashion awards hope to make great strides for the industry itself, hopefully dissociating the stereotype of ethical fashion with poorly designed, unfashionable clothing. The Awards will take place in London, England at Shoreditch Town Hall, November 13th of this year. Hosts include Alistair McGowan and Joanna Yarrow.
