MonsterTRAK, an online career and recruitment Web site, wants to help you out with that major decision. It has developed GreenCareers, a site for college students and recent graduates listing environmentally responsible jobs and internships. GreenCareers includes entry-level, part-time, volunteer, and internship opportunities at organizations of all sizes that positively impact the environment. These are both "green jobs" and jobs at "green companies." The site also features career advice and articles on living green, green activism, and related news.

GreenCareers was developed in partnership with ecoAmerica, a consumer research and marketing environmental nonprofit, and is sponsored by Environmental Defense, a nonprofit organization linking science, economics, and law to find solutions to environmental problems.

Jazz Hostels—a fast growing chain of youth hostels in New York and Miami—is seeking an intern to develop and implement its “Going Green” Initiative.

Jazz Hostels’ Going Green campaign is intended to change the way Jazz handles its day-to-day internal operations and also how it does business with its guests. Desired “green” changes range from switching to non-toxic detergent and energy-efficient light bulbs, to re-insulating walls to trap more heat in the winter, to informing guests about how to be green travelers.

The Coordinator works directly with the Managing Director and is responsible for:

• Conducting on-site surveys of all properties and determining what short- and long-term changes can be made to reduce waste and lower energy costs in day-to-day operations
• Developing a budget and roll-out plan to implement the above-recommended changes
• Researching, developing, and implementing a comprehensive recycling plan for the hostels
• Sourcing vendors for green products
• Working with local and federal governmental agencies to ensure compliance
• Developing informational and marketing materials to be distributed to staff and guests

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ideal candidates are highly motivated individuals with a keen interest in green business. Interest in tourism and hospitality also a plus. Students of environmental studies and/or urban planning are encouraged to apply; course credit is available. Specific qualifications include:

• Familiarity with green business practices
• Strong organizational, administrative, and oral/verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to develop and work with budgets, as well as and meet deadlines

COMPENSATION:
$100 weekly stipend. Accommodations can be arranged for interns arriving from out of state.
