M3E on the Move!

Just recently, I had the pleasure of learning more about one of our up and coming ventures, Mission Three Ethical Consulting.

Founder Arthur Woods and his team of trained college students provide small businesses with an ethical auditing service in the areas of Health, Environment, and Community. Through this enterprise, student consultants have the opportunity to learn extensively about social responsibility, businesses receive guidelines and goals to develop more ethically-driven operations, and consumers can gain access to information on the ethical standing and goals of each consulted business.

At this time, all services are cost-free for the customer as the group works to develop their business model and gauge demand for the service.

M3E is currently in the final phases of completing their audits of “Midnight Mug”, “More Uncommon Grounds” (both student-run coffee shops) and “Vital Vittals,” Georgetown's student-run grocery store. The team has completed audits of each of these businesses in the areas of health, environment, and community and is now in the final stages of the audit in which they will present their findings to the businesses’ management groups. They will finish the year consulting Saxbys Coffee in Washington, DC.

“M3E Consulting has made great strides in a very short time. This venture gains great depth from diverse passions and perspectives that each team member brings to the table. Even more remarkable is the team cohesion that continuously occurs when this extraordinary group unites to achieve a common set of goals,” said Arthur Woods, Founder.

But Woods doesn't do it alone. M3E is largely student run, and powered by a group of five (pictured left to right) hardworking individuals who all have unique personalities and areas of interest.

Brigitte Granger is the Health Chair for M3E Consulting. She has led the way in that department through her passion for and background in campus health initiatives. Brigitte has served as an integral part of the Georgetown Health Services Team where she writes for Be.Georgetown.edu, the campus-wide. Her field of study in Human Science at Georgetown greatly adds to the depth of her leadership in M3E Consulting’s Health Team.

Jonathan Cohn is a junior at Georgetown University pursuing a double major in English and history. He serves as the Community Chair for Mission Three Ethical Consulting, for which he works to help small businesses better engage with their surrounding communities for mutual benefit. He brings with him a lot of experience in sustainability and outreach, which he is ready to share with others! Jon serves in leadership roles in Hoyas Outreach Programs and Education, EcoAcion at Georgetown and is in intern with the Sustainable Business Network of Washington.

Mike Durante is a Junior at Georgetown University and the Environmental Chair of M3E Consulting, a position he acquired as a result of his involvement in campus environmental groups, and his past experience in green auditing. Mike believes strongly in the core values of Mission Three; he considers social responsibility and the triple bottom line to be driving forces behind 21st century businesses. A business school student, Mike does not necessarily fit the "tree hugger" characterization; however, he has been known to don a polar bear suit in the fight against global warming.

Wendy Wang hails from an international background, but has fully embraced Washington, DC, as home in her sophomore year in the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. As the Business Director for M3E Consulting, she coordinates operations and maintains the venture's professional representation for actors outside of the organization, including current and potential audit clients and other campus leaders.

Aaron Hollub is the Chair for the M3E Consulting board. He is a Junior in the McDonough School of Business, majoring in Operations and Information Management and Finance. He said, "I want to encourage the public to view M3E Consulting as an example of what our generation is capable of. This venture is run by an extremely dedicated team of students, all from diverse academic and social backgrounds. Yet, we all have an important element in common: we each desire to see corporations reach new heights by modifying how they approach the areas of health, environment, and community in their business practices. By utilizing our services, we pledge that corporations can maintain or even increase their current profitability while becoming a more well-rounded; ones that not only serve the interests of their shareholders, but that serve the interests of their employees and the communities and environments in which these corporations operate."

I hope to follow up more with M3E and learn about how their venture expands over time. You can too, by visiting their website: http://www.m3econsulting.com/
